ANIMATION
The Prodigal Weiner
This is my first 16mm animation. I made it in graduate school at
The University of Washington in 1973, using spray painted paper cut-outs. I created the sound track by fooling around with an old Ampex reel to reel tape recorder.
Doubter's Passage
For this chalkboard animation, I first recorded a free-form session with Carl Orman’s Momentary Orchestra. After editing the music down to a ‘suite’ of five short pieces, I proceeded to animate, using the audio sync track as a guide, With no storyboard to refer to, I improvised the individual sections of "Doubter's Passage", letting the music guide me.
Night Blooming Boppers
This is another example of spray painted paper cutout animation that I was doing in the early 1970's. The sound was added after the animation was completed, when a musician friend organized an actual studio session, recruiting an alto sax player and playing piano himself. Everyone joined in on the "bop bops".
Mating Habits of Pacific Northwest Kelp
This documentary about the elusive Northwest Pacific kelp was
filmed on Whidbey Island in the State of Washington. I chose to
do this project in May when the bull kelp are most active.
